Cuttack: Sunrise club entered the semifinals of the FAO Super Cup with a dominating 3-0 win over Sunshine Club here at the Barabati Stadium, Tuesday. They will meet Rovers Club in the last four stage.
Both the teams started on a positive note with equal ball possession and accurate passes but Sunrise Club edged over their rivals on number of penetrations in opposition’s box. However, their effort paid dividends as Md Fayas gave Sunrise the lead in the 28th minute.
With a goal down, Sunshine came hard in the second half but failed to convert the opportunities which came their way. Dinesh Lakra doubled the lead for Sunrise in the 51st minute with Gurpreet Singh completing the rout with the third goal eight minutes later.
In the other match of the day, Rovers Club scrapped past Odisha Police 1-0 to sail into the last four.
Arunangas Gupta gave Rovers the lead in the 30th minute to go into the breather with a 1-0 scoreline. However, the police team did try their luck in the second half to get the equalizer but failed to do so as Rovers defenders held their fort firmly to take away the game.
