E-challan alerts will be sent by email or SMS to the owners of violating vehicles, after review of photographic evidence at the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre.
Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has put in place the latest technologies and smart machines to detect red light violations and over-speeding on city roads.
The smart city programme implementing agency has installed smart machines at important junctions like Rupali Square, Kalpana Square, Airport Square and other areas to detect erring motorists, and has also prepared a system to send them electronic challans (e-challans) on their mobile phones through SMS or email. The machines would also be equipped with an automatic vehicle registration number detection system.
The electronic challan system is integrated with the Vahan database for automatic generation of e-challans. E-challan alerts will be sent by email or SMS to the owners of violating vehicles, after review of photographic evidence at the Bhubaneswar Operations Centre.
BSCL said that machines to detect red light violations have been installed at Rupali Square, Kalpana Square, Airport Square, Nicco Park Square, Power House Square, Kalinga Hospital Square and Patia Square. Another eight to 10 intersections will soon have smart systems.
Six over-speeding detection machines have been installed between AG Square and Capital Hospital Square, near Sainik School Square, Baramunda on NH-16, near Jaydev Vihar, near Vani Vihar and near Raghunathpur. There is also a plan to add three or four locations in the near future.
“Under the system e-challans will be generated which the citizens can’t ignore as this will be stored in the database against the vehicle number. In case a person fails to pay the fine, when caught he will have to clear all his earlier dues as everything will be on record,” BSCL Managing Director Krishan Kumar said.
Meanwhile, the civic authorities have decided to install public address systems at seven major points of the city to make announcements about traffic rules.
Radar speed detectors are being set up to detect the speed of vehicles at 10 locations in the city.
