New Delhi: The BJD MPs Friday urged the Union government to come up with Women’s Reservation Bill to reserve 33 per cent seats for women in Parliament and state Assemblies.
Speaking during the Zero Hour, BJD parliamentary party leader Bhartruhari Mahtab associated him with CPM MP PKS Teacher’s demand of immediate enactment of the Bill and urged the Speaker to allot time to have discussion on the Bill in this session.
“Our Chief Minister had written to all party presidents. Some 24-27 party presidents also met the Chief Minister. I would request you to find time to have a discussion on this 33 per cent or one-third reservation for women in this Session,” Mahtab said.
Similarly, Bargarh MP Prabhas Singh said, “The UPA government in 2004 and 2009, and the NDA government in 2014 promised to provide 33 per cent of reservation for women in state Assemblies and Parliament. The Odisha Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution in favour of providing 33 per cent reservation to women in State Assemblies and Parliament and the Chief of Minister has also urged upon the Central Government to pass a resolution in this regard.”
