Umerkote (Nabarangpur): In another incident of sexual harassment on minors girls, a 17-year-old tribal girl was allegedly impregnated and tortured by a youth in Umerkote area of Nabarangpur district.
The matter came to the fore after the victim approached the local police for help and lodged a written complaint against the youth. The accused youth has been identified as Laxman Bhatra of Parasabedha village under Dabugaon block in the district.
According to the victim, she was a student of Bijaraguda Ashram School in Tentulikhunti block. During her school days, Laxman lured her into a relationship and maintained physical intimacy with her on the false promise of marriage.
Unaware of his evil intentions, the girls also allowed him. The girl later stayed at her aunt’s house in Rabanaguda, where Laxman allegedly raped her on multiple occasions.
When she learnt of being pregnant and insisted of marriage after talks with their parents, Laxman changed his behavior, the girl said in her complaint.
He began to threaten her with dire consequences, if she revealed the incident to anyone. As the girl’s health condition deteriorated after a few days, her mother took her to a hospital, where it was revealed that she is four months pregnant.
Though the parents of Laxman initially agreed to keep the girl with them at their house, they later tortured her following which she returned to her father’s house.
The victim, accompanied by members of Maa Ghara NGO, Tuesday met the district SP seeking protection and justice for her. The SP assured to look into the matter and provide justice to the victim.
