Jajpur: In an unusual incident, a young girl was critically injured after a youth, stated to have developed a one-sided love, attacked her with a sharp weapon after she allegedly spurned his advances, Monday afternoon.
The bizarre incident has been reported from Bandhadhi village under Sadar police limits in Jajpur district. The accused has been identified as Dhanu Sahu (27).
According to sources, Sahu was allegedly in a one-sided relationship with a girl of the same village. He had often tried to lure her into a relationship. However, the girl reportedly spurned his advances.
Fed up, he hatched a plan to eliminate her, villagers alleged. As per plan, he called the victim, on some pretext, near the village temple and attacked her with a sharp weapon. Later, the youth stabbed himself in a bid to commit suicide.
Some locals spotted the duo in a pool of blood and informed their family members. They were rescued and rushed the hospital by their family members.
While the injured youth is undergoing treatment at Jajpur district headquarters hospital, the girl has been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
“While the exact cause behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the attack was the fall out of a quarrel over some issue. An investigation into the murderous attack is underway,” the police said.
On the other hand, some villagers said that the duo was secretly seeing each other and might have had a fight over some issue.
