Austin, Oct 26: Force India (FI) notched up 10 points from the US Grand Prix owing to Sergio Perez’s fifth-place finish even though Nico Hulkenberg could not complete the Formula One race. Hulkenberg was forced to retire on lap 35 after he crashed into Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.
“We are happy to come away with fifth place and 10 points from a weekend with such difficult weather conditions,” stated Perez after the race. “The track was very damp to begin with and I was lacking pace on the intermediates, sliding around with lot of degradation. It was not easy to get the temperature in the tyres and I struggled for grip with each restart.
“There was so much happening in the race and you really had to concentrate because it was very easy to make a mistake. Overall I’m very happy for the team because we’ve done a really good job this weekend. We next head to my home race in Mexico, where I’m determined to give my fans something more to celebrate,” Perez added.
Hulkenberg said it was frustrating to bow out of the race without completing it. “It looked really promising at the start, that is why it is all the more frustrating,” said Hulkenberg. “Until the accident, it had been a very interesting race and it must have been a very entertaining for the fans as well,” he added.
