Bargarh: Artistes associated with the world-famous Dhanu Yatra Monday met Bargarh district collector Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan and handed over a memorandum, demanding financial assistance for them.
This year, keeping the prevailing COVID-19 situation in mind, the district administration has cancelled the world-famous Dhanu Yatra.
There are many artistes starting from make-up man to actors associated with this yatra. On one hand, this festival has been a source of entertainment for many and on the other; it has been a source of earning for these artistes.
This year they are to lose this once-in-a-year source of income. At a time when most artistes are suffering from financial problems due to cancellation of all sorts of cultural activities, the recent cancellation of Dhanu Yatra has dealt a huge blow to them.
Yet, they have all welcomed the move of the district administration. But at the same time they have requested the district administration to provide them the remunerations they had received last year.
Among others, Artistes’ Federation chairman Chaitanya Paik and Bhubaneswar Pradhan, who plays King Kansa’s character in the Dhanu Yatra met the collector.
