Bhubaneswar: The state government will not go in for power cuts till April 30 in view of upcoming board exams of school and college students, energy minister Pranab Prakash Das said after chairing a high-level meeting of the department Thursday.
Das said the state government has taken the decision in order to avoid any inconvenience to students preparing for their exams.
The meeting, held at the Secretariat, was attended by officials from the energy department and water resources department along with officials of OHPC and GRIDCO. Sources said a proposal of the state government to ensure 24X7 power supply across the state was discussed at the meeting.
Sources said the energy department is planning to avoid future power crises by ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply even during the summer through a proposed ‘action plan’.
According to sources, while the daily requirement of energy for the state is around 3,800MW in January, it is around 3,850MW in February, 3,950MW in March and 4,050MW in April.
The minister said while power will be drawn from hydel projects at major water reservoirs, independent power producers and power banks, 200MW power will be brought from Delhi and Punjab power banks.
