Bhubaneswar: Chudaganga forest allotted to Nandankanan Zoological Park, located on the outskirts of the city here, will be developed as a wildlife safari.
Keeping in view the safety of wildlife and forest land, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra has directed Works department officials to complete construction of boundary wall of 8 sq km of the forest area by the end of June next.
Making a field visit to the zoo, Mahapatra reviewed the multi-storied parking, now under construction near the zoo, and directed the zoo authorities to finalise the tender process for the management and conservation of the parking place.
Official sources said around 35 lakh people visit the zoo every year and at anytime 1,500 four-wheelers and 600 two-wheelers can be parked at the proposed parking place.
The Chief Secretary directed the Works department to prepare a master plan for the renovation of the bus stand and the front side of Nandankanan.
He also directed the zoo authorities to complete the process for the plying of a toy train inside the zoo by the end of March this year and said the toy train should be made more attractive for the children.
Mahapatra instructed the Works department officials to connect the Botanical Garden near Nandankan to the proposed by-pass road from Jaydev Vihar. For this, a 500-metre road and culvert will be constructed.
