Bhubaneswar, June 19: Classical and film music were served up at two delectable offerings in the city Sunday. Bhubaneswar Music Circle and Saaz Aur Awaaz organised the events.

The event hosted by Bhubaneswar Music Circle at Rabindra Mandap included Hindustani and Odissi vocal recitals involving several junior and senior artists.

Bidyadhar Satapathy, a 24-year-old, was the key performer at the Rabindra Mandap event. He presented Hindustani vocal set to Rabindra Mandap on Bilambit ektaal. He also presented two other recitals.

Bidyadhar had recently received the Hariharan Award instituted by Bhubaneswar Music Circle in recognition of his prowess in Hindustani classical vocal music. The award comprised a certificate and purse of `15,000. The award is sponsored by Bhubaneswar Music Circle member H Balakrishnan as a mark of respect for the love of classical music of his father Hariharan.

Bidyadhar has completed masters degree in music from Utkal University of Culture, Orissa. He was trained by Guru Parameswar Bal, Guru Chandan Kumar Jena, Guru Bijay Nanda Nayak, Guru Ashamukula Barik, Guru Karunakar Nayak and Itishree Sahoo.
Guru Nimakanta Routray, an eminent musician who has seen Bidyadhar in action, told Orissa Post: “Bidyadhar is a unique young talent. Such artistes can preserve ancient art of Orissa with their dedication for music. I am glad that several youngsters are coming up to learn classical music.”

Artistes who provided musical accompaniment to Bidyadhar included Santosh Kumar Das on the harmonium, Chakradhar Satpathy on the tabla and Satchidananda Das on tanpura.
Four other artistes gave Odissi music recitals at the event. Instrumentalists Suramani Ramesh Das on violin, Soumya Ranjan Joshi on the flute, Soumya Biswajit on sitar, Dibakar and Pratap on mardala and Sarat Pani on the khola accompanied the vocalists.
The other event ‘Akela hun Main’, organised by Saaz Aur Awaaz at Soochana Bhawan, paid musical tribute to legends of Hindi film music. Songs of Mohammad Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeskar and Asha Bhosle were presented at the event. As many as 30 hits from Hindi films were presented by singers Devdas and group at the programme.

Besides Devdas, Goutam Giri, Barada Pattnaik, Suraj Das, Archana, Mamata Mohapatra, Pushpanjali Avipsa, Sweta Biraj and Mamata Padhi rendered songs.
Hit numbers such as ‘Akela Hun Main’, ‘Geet Gata Hun Main’, ‘Jane Kyun Log Muhabat’, ‘Aye Gulbadan’, ‘Hum Aur Tum Tum Aur Hum’, ‘Zindegiki Na Tute Ladi’, ‘Maik Ek Chor Tu’, ‘Kaun Aya Ke’, ‘Tere Pass Ake Mere Waqt’ and ‘Aja Aja Re Tujhko’.
