Bhubaneswar, Sept 8: To improve the healthcare facilities at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Science and Research (VIMSAR) Burla, the state government has decided to develop the hospital as a super specialty hospital, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said here Thursday.
“Various subcommittees have been formed for the development of the government-run hospital and medical college. It has been asked to submit a report on the betterment of the hospital by October this year,” said Padhi after chairing the governing body meeting held at the Secretariat.
“Besides, we have also decided to increase the number of seats at the medical college. Decision regarding the development of the hostels at the hospital was also taken at the meeting,” said Padhi adding, “We will take a final decision as per the recommendation of the subcommittee.”
Expressing concern about the absence of doctors during the hospital hours, Padhi directed VIMSAR authorities to introduce biometric attendance and CCTVs and enforce the rules of attendance without any excuse.
The meeting also deliberated on the road map for developing the institute to a Centre of excellence. The sub-committees will to look in to various aspects of development and modernization of the university.
The body approved the proposals for introduction of super specialization degree courses, more number of super specialty units in pediatric surgery, cardio-therapy, advance laparoscopy, surgical oncology, renal transplantation, surgical gastroenterology, plastic surgery, endocrinology etc.
It was also decided to have one extended campus of the university with modern infrastructural facilities. Sub-committees were formed to look in to details of these developmental agenda. The chief secretary also advised VIMSAR authorities to formulate specific project proposals for these works.
Health and family welfare secretary Arati Ahuja participating in the discussion said that the process of recruitment for VIMSAR has been started and 27 assistant professors in different disciplines have been appointed. She assured that recruitment for other posts of associate professors would be completed within 3 months.
Ahuja further appraised that the fund provision for VIMSAR has been increased substantially. While `70 crore would be provided under the head of equipment and instrument fund, `4.5 crore would be provided as annual maintenance grant.
Besides, the contingency for the medical college has been increased from `95 lakh to `1.01 crore. Contingency for the hospital has also been increased from `18 lakh to `50 lakh, she added. The other grants of the hospital and medical college has also been hiked.
