New Delhi: The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate alleged involvement of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in chit-fund scams.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud refused to entertain the petition seeking investigation against Patnaik and his close associate over their alleged involvement in the chit fund scams.
The bench also comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra further turned down the petitioner’s request to pass observation in the matter.
“We don’t want to give you a handle here. We will not observe anything on this matter because this is a very sensitive matter. Dismissed as withdrawn,” the bench said.
Significantly, the petition was filed by Pinak Pani Mohanty seeking directions to the CBI to investigate the Odisha Chief Minister and his close associate Saroj Sahoo. He had also pleaded for CBI probe into the involvement of the Chief Minister and other BJD MPs and MLAs in various mining scams.
The petitioner had alleged allotment of land which exclusively belonged to Lord Jagannath to Vedanta University which is enriched with Bauxite mines and sought probe into that.
“Petitioner Sri Pinak Pani Mohanty is a social activist who has submitted an audio CD on 28.03.2015 to the CBI SP MK Sinha that reveals names of 47 BJD MLAs, MPs, Ministers and one Saroj Sahoo who is a close associate to the Chief Minister of Odisha who took Rs550 crore from Seashore Chit Fund Company,” the petition read.
