IMG-20170102-WA0003Dibya Jyoti Patra rose to fame as ‘Shyamali’ in the tele serial ‘Apaa’ aired on ETV. The family drama was a perfect blend of delicate emotions and hard-hitting reality. Having worked in one single TV show for five long years, actor Dibya has carved a niche for herself on the small screen.

For the first time in her acting career, Dibya will play a negative character in Sarthak’s upcoming serial ‘Jeevan Saathi’ which is expected to go on air this month. Describing her current venture, the actress says she wants to give her best in ‘Jeevan Saathi’. She says she has always believed there is no alternative to hard work and dedication.

Born and brought up in Nimapara, the young artiste has completed her schooling and college from her hometown. The actor did her Masters from the United School of Business Management in Bhubaneswar.

About her small screen entry Dibya says: “I am a trained Odissi dancer. In 2010, after I moved to the state capital, I got a scope to give auditions for an ETV show. Fortunately, I was selected. After that I went through the ‘Apaa’ audition that same year. The show, which ran for five years, gave my career just the head-start it needed. I garnered praise and my character, Shyamali, became hugely popular. Subsequently, I did shows like ‘Tapasya’ and ‘Rani’. In all these daily soaps, I didn’t play the lead role but my characters were significant and an important part of the plots.”

“Acting is something which I always wanted to do and when I first pitched the idea of entering acting my father was not happy with my decision while my mother supported me. Today my parents and, of course, my elder brother are pillars of strength in my personal and professional life,” the actor adds.

A trained Odissi dancer, Dibya has done a number of stage shows, thanks to which she has bagged many good offers.

Dwelling on a memorable moment, Dibya says she was elated when she got a chance to share the stage with famous actress and Odissi dancer Nitu Singh, the recipient of the Odisha State Tele Awards in the category of the best actress for the serial ‘Gayatri’.
The year 2016 had been a splendid one for the actress as she bagged some good offers. Dibya is hopeful that 2017 will also bring with it some good projects. Discussing her future endeavours apart from ‘Jeevan Saathi’, Dibya says she has a couple of movies in the pipeline, the names of which she is not yet ready to disclose. She says there is always a right time to make such announcements.

Is she is a bit like – or very unlike – Shyamali – the character that made her a household name? “Yes, I am very much like Shyamali of ‘Apaa’,” she replies. “Both Shyamali and Dibya are fighting to realise their potential, and their dreams. We both are passionate, hard working and focused. There are many other aspects in which I can relate myself with my onscreen avatar.”
