Bhubaneswar: With the temperature rising in the state, at least eighteen places witnessed day temperature at 41 degrees Celsius or above, Tuesday. According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar, Baripada was the hottest place in the state for second day with maximum (day) temperature of 43.6 degrees Celsius. The district headquarters of Mayurbhanj registered 41.4 degrees Celsius Monday. The maximum temperature soared to 42 degrees Celsius or more in five places and 40 degrees or more in as many as 29 places in the state Tuesday. Baripada was followed by Nuapada and Parlakhemundi at 42.4 degrees Celsius and Talcher and Boudh at 42 degrees Celsius. Bhubaneswar, which was second highest Monday with 41.2 degrees, saw the mercury further rising to 41.9 degrees Celsius Tuesday. The IMD said the day temperature is very likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius at many places in the state during next two days due to northwesterly/westerly dry air and high solar insolation. Maximum temperature is likely to be more than 40 degrees Celsius or above at many places and above normal by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in some districts during the next four days.
The Met Office has forecast that hot and humid conditions is very likely to prevail at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati. It has advised people to take precautionary measure while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm. The people have also been asked to avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks.
