Rayagada: In a tragic incident, a minor girl was killed and four others suffered serious injuries after the mud wall of their house collapsed on them at Kulumuhi village under Kalyansinghpur block in this district, following heavy rains late Saturday night. The deceased was identified as Samanti Wadka, 13, and the critically injured are her father Burja Wadka, 50, mother Kudunji Wadka, 40, younger sister Sanjana Wadka, five, and brother, Sanju Wadka, three.
According to reports, the tragedy occurred when the family was asleep. The mud wall beside which all the five were sleeping collapsed on them killing Samanti on the spot. Hearing the agonizing screams of the injured, locals rushed to their help. The surviving members were pulled out from the heap of mud and were rushed to the Kalyansinghpur CHC. Later all four were shifted to the district headquarters hospital here after their conditions deteriorated. As per instructions from Rayagada Collector Parul Patawari, sub-collector Kalyani Sanghamitra Devi met the victims undergoing treatment and provided assistance of Rs 10,000 from Red Cross Fund and `30,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. District Emergency Officer, Lalit Mandal and district project officer (DPO) for disaster management, Jyotirmaya Patra were present during the meeting.
