Bhubaneswar, June 30: Concerned over the release of excess Mahanadi water to Orissa by Chhattisgarh, the Orissa government Friday wrote to the Central Water Commission (CWC), urging it to direct the neighbouring state’s government to inform Orissa in advance about its gate-opening schedules for different barrages and dams in the river’s upstream areas. This, Orissa said, will help in better flood management during the monsoon season.
The state water resources department also requested its Chhattisgarh counterpart to instruct its officials to share this information with Orissa officials, so as to properly and swiftly manage any flood eventuality in the river.
