Dhaka: Bangladeshi cricketer Tamim Iqbal was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe chest pain during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club.
Initially, plans were made to airlift him to Dhaka for immediate treatment, but the helicopter could not take off. Instead, he was taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital.
According to Bangladesh’s Jamuna TV, Tamim is in critical condition and has been placed on life support. Doctors are working to transfer him to Dhaka, but given the severity of his condition, the move remains challenging.

Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), later confirmed that Tamim suffered a massive heart attack. “He underwent initial tests at a local hospital, where mild heart issues were suspected. While being transported to the helipad, his condition worsened, and he had to be rushed back. Subsequent medical reports confirmed a severe heart attack,” Dr. Chowdhury stated.
Tamim, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, had previously reversed his decision after an appeal from then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. However, he later reaffirmed his retirement, stating he did not want to be a distraction ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy. In a Facebook post, he expressed gratitude to selectors and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for considering his return but said he had made peace with his decision.
Over his career, Tamim Iqbal represented Bangladesh in 70 Tests, 243 ODIs, and 78 T20Is, amassing 5,134, 8,357, and 1,778 runs, respectively.
