Bhubaneswar: National Council for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Friday directed the state government to ensure strict implementation of provisions made for children under Right to Education (RTE) Act.
A two-member delegation of NCPCR led by its member (RTE and Education) Priyank Kanoongo held a meeting with School and Mass Education department here. After attending the meeting, Kanoongo said private schools have to implement all the norms of the RTE Act failing which they will face stringent action.
On non-implementation of mandatory provision of 25 per cent reservation for children belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) by many private schools in the state, Kanoongo said, “They have to follow the Act. We have asked the state government not to give no-objection certificates (NOCs) to the private schools, if they are violating the rule.”
Last year, the state government had issued notices to more than 5,600 private schools in the state over non-compliance of RTE. However, later the government appeared to be lenient towards the private schools and asked them to implement it from this year onwards.
5% quota for PwDs in higher education
Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday directed all the state-run higher education institutions to ensure 5 per cent reservation of seats for students belonging to persons with disabilities (PwD) category. As per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016, the government has to make 5 per cent reservation for the PwD candidates. As the first phase admission has already been completed, the decision would be implemented during the second phase admission and for the subsequent years.
