Malkangiri: Trupti Das, a 20-year-old girl of MV-72 village under MV-79 police limits in this district who offered to donate one of her kidneys to save her younger brother’s life, has started doing tailoring job to add to the money required for the transplantation.
Trupti, the daughter of Dipak Das (60) was with her brother Debashis (18) who is at present undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam. But she had to return to her village to make a few bucks which can help to meet the treatment expenses.
Earlier, Orissa POST had carried a story on the plight of the family which is struggling to arrange funds for the survival of the youth.
According to sources, the girl winded up her Class X study and received tailoring training after Debashis became ill. She has now started putting up her skill into use to help the family.
The villagers appreciated her move and wished speedy recovery of her brother.
At present, Trupti is working round the clock not only to arrange money for her brother’s kidney transplant, but to clear the loans which her father incurred from others for the treatment.
Meanwhile, the villagers have pooled Rs 50,000 among themselves and handed it over to Dipak’s family for the treatment of Debashis.
It is very difficult to meet the transplantation cost with the money earned from tailoring, said village head Bhawani Shankar Mukherjee. He requested the people across the state to donate for the treatment of the youth.
Though Trupti wanted to donate her kidney the cost of transplantation was out of the reach of the family. Left with no option, the family approached the state government and thanks to the effort of the local MLA, Rs 3 lakh was credited to the bank account of the hospital on behalf of the government. However, another Rs 4 lakh is required for the transplantation, it was learnt. PNN
