Kantabanji: Four members of a family, including an 8-year-old boy, were killed in a head-on collision between a motorcycle and a pickup van near Maoist-infested Pandaren under Turekela police limits in Bolangir district Sunday evening.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on Turekela– Mahakhand main road, police said.
The victims were identified as Chira Putel, 65; his wife Phulmati, 62; their son Shobhan, 31; and Shobhan’s son Debashish Putel, 8, all residents of Dhanhra Khaman under Lathore police limits of the district.
According to preliminary investigations, the family was travelling toward Turekela on a motorcycle bythe Turekela-Mahakhand road when it collided head-on with an oncoming pickup van.
All four died on the spot.
On being informed, Turekela police reached the spot and launched an investigation. Further details were awaited.
Police said Shobhan got married last month.
