Jajpur Road/Dharmasala: The district administration Saturday sealed Laxmi Hospital in Jajpur Road following a case involving the delivery of a minor girl who was allegedly impregnated by a 70-year-old man.
Earlier, police arrested the hospital owner and the accused in the case and forwarded them to court. According to officials, a complaint was lodged at Jajpur Road police station last Sunday evening after it came to light that a 16-year-old girl, who was staying in a rented house in the Kopanda area under Vyasanagar Municipality, was pregnant.
Police said the accused, identified as 70-year-old Padmanabh Satpathy, allegedly maintained an illicit relationship with the minor and she was seven months pregnant. After the girl complained of abdominal pain, the accused admitted her to Laxmi Hospital, where doctors conducted the delivery.
A team led by the Chief District Medical Officer (clinical establishment) visited the hospital Monday, and initiated an inquiry into the incident. As some patients were undergoing treatment at the time, authorities had said the hospital would be sealed after arrangements were made to shift them.
Officials of the district health department, along with the administration and in the presence of police, vacated the premises Saturday, and sealed the hospital. Further investigation into the case is underway.
