Malkangiri/Korukonda: More than 150 girl students of government-run Badapada Educational Complex, a residential school in the cut-off region of Chitrakonda block in Malkangiri district were taken ill Friday allegedly after taking breakfast.
Flattened rice was served to about 250 students of the school for breakfast. However, nearly 150 students fell ill with symptoms of food-poisoning, vomiting and dizziness, said Ramkrishna Gond, project administrator of the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA).
The affected students of the residential school for tribals were immediately taken to a health centre of the Border Security Force (BSF) at Janbai river ghat with the help of BSF’s launch ambulance and country boat, Gond said.
They were later shifted to the community health centre at Chitrakonda for better medical treatment, Gond, said, adding a probe was on to ascertain the cause of the incident.
Besides Gond, Malkangiri collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy, district welfare officer Pitambar Nayak and sub-divisional police officer Pratik Singh visited the hospital to enquire about the condition of the girls, who were being provided with proper medical treatment, officials said.
However, some students, who were not sick, had also been admitted to the hospital, the collector said, adding all the students are now out of danger. PNN
