Bhubaneswar: Moving a step forward on implementing Oriya as an official language, the state government has incorporated Oriya language in Orissa Secretariat Workflow Automation System (OSWAS).
OSWAS is the software adopted by the state government for movement of its files in the state Secretariat.
Presiding over the Oriya Official Language Committee meeting here Monday, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi suggested to all the departments to implement the Oriya language in the government offices and record the number of files moved on the language.
Padhi advised the works, urban development and rural development department officials to take steps for implementation of Oriya language in name boards, sign boards and milestones. He said this was necessary as the state government was committed to use the language as per Government Language Act-1954.
The General Administration Department has prepared a guide containing samples for official drafts, semi official letters, office orders, accounts etc which is being used by the departments in daily official business.
The state government is also preparing software to know the exact Oriya translation of an English word. The chief secretary asked the officials to complete the work soon and incorporate it with Windows OS so that all office computers could use it.
