Malkangiri: Nine members of a family of Pamel village under Paparetla police limits in this district left their native place Monday and took shelter at Chitrakonda block as they faced Maoist threat.
The victims were identified as Kamal Khil and eight of his family members.
According to reports, some armed guerillas came to his house and asked him and others to leave the place in the next eight days on the accusation that Kamal’s younger son works as a police informer.
Though Kamal had told them that his son worked as a labourer in Bangalore, the ultras were not convinced. Moreover, they warned him of dire consequences if he didn’t return early to the village. Then all the family members left their ancestral land and came to Chitrakonda. The district administration has rehabilitated them at a shelter house.
Measures would be taken to provide them all government facilities, officials said. Besides, the administration is making efforts to create a fearless environment in the village in the wake of mass exodus from the area, they added.
“Our objective is to bring the region under the control of the administration within six months of commissioning of Gurupriya bridge,” Malkangiri superintendent of police Jagamoha Meena said. PNN
