Brahmapur: An inter-state dacoity gang was busted with the arrest of four criminals, including three from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha Police said Sunday.
The police seized Rs 6.92 lakh in cash, recently robbed by them from the Golanthara area in Ganjam district, a car, 14 mobile phones along with a wifi device, and eight fake gold pieces from their possession, a senior officer said.
Golanthara Police Station officials arrested the accused persons, three from Andhra Pradesh and one from Odisha’s Ganjam, the police said.
The arrests were made in an area under the jurisdiction of the Golanthara PS.
The accused had allegedly been involved in a dacoity of Rs 35 lakh from a person in Hanspur near Chhatrapur in Ganjam district August 10, Brahmapur SP Saravana Vivek M said.
Two other members, including the main accused, of the gang remained absconding, and a search was on to apprehend them, he said.
The police said one of the accused called the complainant August 10, posing as someone receiving an advance of Rs 35 lakh for a land purchase.
The accused allegedly snatched the bag containing cash and the victim’s mobile phone before they fled the scene, the officer said, adding that the gang was involved in several dacoity incidents in Brahmapur, Srikakulam and Visakhapatnam.
The gang was also reported to have used a siren in their vehicle to create a distraction and prevent public interference.
They also frequently changed vehicle number plates to avoid detection, the SP added.
