Kendujhar/Sundaragada: Brahmani River has reached its warning level following heavy rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system, while the Baitarani has caused the maximum damage in several parts of Odisha, Water Resources Department Chief Engineer Dilip Raut said Monday.
Water flow in the Brahmani is being regulated through the Rengali Dam, while the Subarnarekha remains below its warning level, indicating a relatively lower flood threat in downstream areas, Raut added.
More than 100 mm of rain was recorded at nine locations across the state, causing water levels to rise in the Brahmani, Baitarani, Subarnarekha and Salandi rivers. Several areas along the rivers have reported waterlogging and flooding. Bari, Aali and Binjharpur are among the worst-affected areas, he said.
Low pressure to bring heavy rainfall in Odisha, alert for 16 districts
Raut said water levels in downstream areas are expected to gradually recede if there is a break in rainfall over the next two to three days.
