Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Commission for Women (SCW) has sought a report from the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) on the alleged rape of a woman at gunpoint at her home in Bhubaneswar Wednesday night.
A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped at gunpoint by a “masked man” at her rented flat in the Nayapalli police station area in Bhubaneswar, police said.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the case, the SCW has sought a detailed report from the Bhubaneswar DCP within the next 15 days, officials said.
Urmila Mohapatra, a member of the SCW, visited the Nayapalli police station on Friday and held discussions with the investigating officers.
“Women are safe in Odisha. However, incidents can happen anywhere-inside a house, at a bus stand or while moving on the street. But the ill-mindset of youths needs to be changed,” Mohapatra told media persons.
Stating the state government has shown seriousness in this case, she said the police are conducting a deep investigation to find the truth behind the incident.
“The victim is unknown to the accused. The police are investigating in accordance with the complaint made by the victim, and I hope the accused will be arrested soon,” she said.
“We have formed multiple teams to crack down on the case with the arrest of the accused. The investigation is at an advanced stage,” Bhubaneswar DCP Saravana Vivek M told.
