Bhubaneswar: Heat soars in several parts of the state, including the state Capital, with rising temperatures and high humidity making life uncomfortable. Day temperatures have touched 36 degrees Celsius in some places.

However, relief from the heat is likely soon, with the Capital expected to record a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius and receive rain over the next two to three days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, several parts of the state are likely to experience thunderstorms, rain and lightning over the next three days.

In the next 24 hours, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and rain are likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Sundargada, Kendujhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Anugola, Debagada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Baragada districts.

Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are also likely.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning in view of the weather conditions.

Thunderstorms, lightning and rain are likely Thursday at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Sundargada, Kendujhar, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendrapada, Dhenkanal, Anugola, Debagada, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Nuapada and Baripada districts.

The weather is likely to remain cloudy across the state with light to moderate rain un til October 9.

Some places may also receive heavy rain.

The weather office has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid exposure to lightning.

Meanwhile, Parlakhemundi and Nayagada recorded the highest daytime temperature of 36 degrees Celsius Wednesday.

The mercury stood at 35.5 degrees Celsius in Chhatrapur and Titlagarh, 35.4 degrees Celsius in Puri, 35 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar and Chandba li, 34.7 degrees Celsius in Anugola and Jharsuguda, 34.6 degrees Celsius in Baleshwar, and 34.5 degrees Celsius in Bhawanipatna, Jajpur and Bhadrak.

Daringbadi recorded the lowest temperature at 29 degrees Celsius, according to the weather office.
