Odagaon: Two men drowned in the Kusumi River in Nayagada district while returning home after visiting their fields to protect their crops from wild boars, police said. The deceased were identified as Narasingha Mohapatra, 70, and Trinath Mohapatra, 30, both residents of Malisahi in Rabara village under Odagaon block.
The two went to their fields around 11 pm Wednesday after wild boars damaged their crops. When they failed to return, their families alerted Narasingha’s son, Bhabani Mohapatra, a home guard posted at Odagaon police station.
Bhabani reached the village around 4 am Thursday and joined villagers in searching for the missing men. Suspecting that they had been swept away by the nearby Kusumi River, he alerted the Odagaon Fire Services.
Three fire service personnel launched a search operation and recovered Narasingha’s body after searching a 2-kilometre stretch of the river.
Villagers later recovered Trinath’s body from beneath Bhadikila bridge, about 6 kilometres from Rabara village.
