Cuttack, Dec 1: Two days after a joint team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) arrested and subsequently released Akhtar Hussein Khan — after questioning him for his alleged links with terror groups — a team of special branch of the state police followed suit and questioned him Friday.
The special branch team led by an additional superintendent of police questioned Khan, who lives in a rented accommodation at Samantarapur in Kishorenagar police limits here, about his sources of income and the details of his bank accounts.
During the questioning, the team learnt that Khan was maintaining accounts at the Syndicate Bank branch at Harirajpur, State Bank of India branch at Nemal and Punjab National Bank branch at Kishorenagar even as he had been living in Saudi Arabia. Besides, the team questioned the man about his relation with Choudhury, a Pakistani, during his stay in Saudi Arabia and why he had contacted him over telephone after returning to India.
The NIA team had issued a notice to Khan Thursday and ordered him to appear at its headquarters in New Delhi on the fourth of December.
Sources said the NIA and IB team had got intelligence inputs concerning the telephonic conversations that Khan had had with Choudhury. Subsequently, a joint team of NIA and IB conducted a raid at the rented house of Khan November 29 and arrested him. The officials had released Khan after questioning.
