Bhubaneswar: State government is gearing up to execute a number of ideas in order to make capital city as a perfect smart city. A budding scientist Diptimayee Bisoi has come up with an idea to make ‘safe and smart railway platform’. She displayed her project at the state-level science exhibition organised by Regional Science Centre in city Saturday.
Her idea was to install sensors at a distance of 25, 15, 15 kms from the platform and also to a smart bridge to cross the platform just over the railway tracks with gates both side instead of normal over-bridge.
“We can fix a sensor 25 km away from the platform. When a train comes it will send a signal and automatically sound the horn. When the train reaches 15 kms the gates of smart bridge will be automatically closed and when the train would be 10 kms from the platform, the smart bridge will fold back or move aside so that the train can enter the platform,” said Diptimayee, a class-X student of AP Das Nodal High school, Parla of Kalahandi district.
Speaking about her idea of the smart bridge she said, “Passengers face difficulty in carrying their luggage and climb the over-bridge to pass the platform. A smart bridge would make crossing the tracks at a railway station far easier and comfortable form passengers.”
A student of NSSMP Sikshyaketan, Nabarangpur Subhashree Mishra came up with an idea called ‘Emergency Wheel for the Bikes’ that can be used during uncertain tire puncture.
Biswa Meher exhibited his project that can solve the problem for the soldiers who protect the borders. He created MAUM (Multi-utility Arduino Ultrasonic Module) machine that can keep a watch the borders and even shoot the intruders or trespassers.
“We need to install eco and trigger ultrasonic at the gun. Eco will send and receive wave signal to the trigger ultrasonic when any object from other side of the border tries to cross it, it will shoot at the target,” said class Biswa.
Several such exhibits were displayed at the exhibition.
The Judges were professor PK Mohanty, department of zoology, Utkal University, Dr JK Panigrahi of Jayadev college of education and technology and Dr AK Nayak, Reader (F) at Institute of Physics adjudges the participants.
Speaking with Orissa POST, the curator of the center Amit Kumar Mandal said, “the projects are based on five subjects and three participants from each subject will be awarded for their ideas.” (PNN)
