Jharigaon: A critically-ill patient died after a 108 ambulance in which he was being rushed to the Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital broke down midway, according to reports.
The deceased was identified as Hira Singh Nayak (35) of Dhadipani village under Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur district.
According to reports, Singh was suffering from malaria for some days. His condition turned critical Friday. The family members called the 108 ambulance service to shift him to the hospital. Though the ambulance arrived on time, it suffered an engine breakdown near Jharigaon community health centre on its way back to the hospital.
Nayak was kept at the CHC and the attendants had to wait till another ambulance arrived. However, the second ambulance from Raighar arrived there late and by then, Nayak was dead. The absence of a mortuary van at Jharigaon compounded the problems of the family members. The hospital tried to rope in a van from Umerkote but no vehicle was available.
After waiting for hours, the attendants boarded an old ambulance of Jharigaon CHC to return home. PNN
