Chandbali: An attempt by miscreants to decamp with cash from an SBI ATM kiosk at Moto Oil India square under Chandbali block in Bhadrak district was foiled by the timely intervention of home guards and local residents, here early Tuesday morning. Police have sealed the ATM and launched an investigation.
According to sources, four bike-borne miscreants reached the SBI ATM on two motorcycles at 2am. When they tried to forcibly open the machine, the outpost’s home guards noticed the commotion and rushed to prevent the loot.
Seeing the security personnel, the miscreants started hurling bombs indiscriminately to scare them away. However, the sounds drew local residents to the ATM and the goons had no option but to escape seeing the sizeable gathering.
Police later said that the CCTV camera and other furniture inside the ATM have been damaged. However, they were trying to recover the footage. Another adjacent UBI ATM was also damaged during the incident.
