Cuttack: The condition of a baby who sustained burn injuries during the fire mishap at Sishu Bhawan here November 29 deteriorated further Tuesday.
The baby was administered fresh blood that its father, Abhimanyu, procured from a blood bank at SCB Medical College and Hospital. Abhimanyu, meanwhile, alleged that the doctors at Sishu Bhawan were negligent to the baby’s care.
“Not a single doctor visited the baby from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon. The baby was left at the mercy of the Almighty,” Abhimanyu rued.
Sishu Bhawan superintendent SK Satpathy, however, refuted the allegation and claimed that a special team has been formed to look after the baby. “I am personally looking after the baby. The burn injuries are no way responsible for its deteriorating health. Rather, the baby is suffering from complications in his heart and lever,” Satpathy said.
Sishu Bhawan sources said the baby had gone through an operation within three days of its birth at a private hospital and was subsequently shifted to Sishu Bhawan. “We are not sure about the nature of treatment provided to the baby at the private hospital. At present, the baby is suffering from a shortage of haemoglobin in its blood,” said Jyoti Champatiray, another doctor.
Revenue divisional commissioner Bikash Mohapatra, meanwhile, convened a high-level meeting to deliberate on the fire mishap at Sishu Bhawan. He directed officials of the district administration and the health department for an early repair of the gutted intensive care units and equipment at the premier childcare hospital.
