Puri, March 27: Blood samples were collected from two couples and their babies for DNA tests to resolve a baby swapping incident at the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here.
Doctors at the DHH took blood samples from complainant Suresh Kumar Mahapatra of Bangar Barapada, his wife Lusirani and their baby girl.
Samples were also collected from Narayan Pradhan of Balanga, his wife Saudamini and their baby boy in the presence of Kumbharpada police in-charge Khireswar Sahu and additional district medical officer (ADMO) Pravat Kumar Sahu.
“We have collected blood samples from the two couples and their babies. The samples were handed over to the police. Police will send the samples to a Bhubaneswar-based lab for DNA tests,” Sahu said.
Chief district medical officer (CDMO) Gyanendra Sahu, meanwhile, terminated the service of a hospital employee in connection with the baby swapping incident.
A copy of Bini Mohanty’s termination was forwarded to health secretary, national health mission director and district collector, DHH sources said.
Bini, however, refuted the charges and said she would take legal action against her termination.
Suresh has alleged his wife had given birth to a boy at the hospital, Monday. The hospital staff, however, swapped the baby with a girl. A complaint was lodged with police in this connection.
