Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a business man was hacked to death in his house in broad daylight in Dhenkanal district, police said Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Mantu Patra, originally from Medinipur district in West Bengal. He was running a jewellery store.
The incident took place at Pattnaik Sahi in Meena Bazar area under the Town police limits.
According to police, some miscreants barged into his house Monday afternoon and slit his throat while he was sleeping. He died on the spot.
The assailants had stabbed his chest, stomach and other parts of the body, police added.
Patra used live in a rented house here with his wife, son and his mother for the last 30 years, police said.
The exact reason behind the brutal murder is yet to be known. The body was later taken to the government hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into the incident. “He is from West Bengal and had jewellery shop here. He used to run his business with the help of two other people from his own state. We are probing the case from various angles,” said Dhenkanal SDPO Santosh Kumar Nayak, who rushed to the spot to begin inquiry.
