Bhubaneswar, May 21: Despite marginal improvement in the credit-deposit ratio seen in the banking system during last financial year, 11 districts of the state had registered less than 40 per cent ratio during this period.
As per State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) report, CD ratio for commercial banks stood at 72.50 per cent in FY16 as compared with 71.94 per cent reported in FY15.
CD ratio of districts like Sambalpur, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Malkangiri, Nuapada, Puri, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj remained below 40 per cent during the last financial year, the report noted.
In a sharp contrast, while Bargarh district had registered highest (79.47 per cent) CD ratio, it was at its lowest of 15.38 per cent in Sambalpur district.
“The lead district managers of those districts and lead banks should take needful action for improvement in CD ratio in the coming quarters,” the report said.
According to the report, six districts namely Balasore, Bhadrakh, Bargarh, Boudh, Kalahandi and Sonepur had achieved CD ratio of more than 60 per cent in 2015-16.
On the progress of Jan Dhan Yojna, the report said around 88.5 lakh accounts had been opened last fiscal. While 72.7 lakh accounts were opened by public sector banks, 12.5 lakh accounts had been opened through sponsored Regional Rural Banks. Around 3.28 lakh accounts were opened by private sector banks.
Banks had covered 39,928 villages with population below 2,000 with provision for banking services. This was 87 per cent of the total target given to the banks during last financial year. “Out of these villages, 446 are covered through brick & mortar branches and rest through BC (business correspondent) mode,” the report noted.
