Cuttack: The court of the sub-divisional judicial magistrate here Wednesday rejected the bail petition of a woman accused of torturing her four-year-old niece.
The accused, Pranati Roul, was arrested by CDA Phase-II police Wednesday for allegedly torturing her niece. The minor girl was rescued Tuesday by the members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) from her aunt’s house at CDA Sector 11 after a video of the minor being beaten by her aunt went viral on social media.
The police produced the woman in the court where she appealed for bail. During the hearing, additional public persecutor Biswajit Boral opposed the bail petition. “Subjecting a minor girl to inhuman torture is a sensitive issue. There are strong evidences against the woman. So I request the court to reject her bail,” Boral told the court.
The court turned down her plea and sent her to judicial custody.
Notably, an anonymous caller informed CWC member Doli Das about torture of the minor girl following which she was rescued from her aunt’s house Tuesday.
