Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police (CP) Thursday claimed to have solved last month’s murder of contractor Binod Behari Das after arresting all the three accused in this connection.
Das, a native of Manglabag area, was shot dead December 6 evening last year near the foreign liquor shop of his elder brother Rasa Behari Das at Brahmanjharilo market under Cuttack Sadar police limits. Police commissioner R P Sharma said all the three accused — Nihar Ranjan Das, Suman Kumar Das and Madhab Das – have been arrested. Two live bombs and three sophisticated pistols, including the one taken away from the deceased and nine live bullets were seized from them. Two motorcycles, a laptop, eight mobile phones and nine SIM cards were also retrieved from the accused.
Sources said Das brothers were successful in winning tenders for many projects of water resources and rural development departments in Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur. They were also doing well in their liquor business.
“A few tender mafia of Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur had promised the three accused `30 lakh if they could eliminate Das. The accused had hatched the plot at least a month ahead of the incident,” said a senior CP official. Police said a special team nabbed Suman from OMP Square in the city while Nihar and Madhab were nabbed from two slums in Bhubaneswar.
