Bhubaneswar: With a view to ending the waterlogging issues in Acharya Vihar area of the Capital city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recently floated the tender for construction of a drain to divert the water from the drainage channel there.
During rains, the water from Channel No. 4 at this location creates a flood like situation at the prime location in the capital. Immediately after a downpour, the road gets submerged and at times the flow of water is so powerful that it makes commuting impossible.
Although the residents had taken up these issues several times with the civic body, the project was delayed for a long and denizens even started rechristening Acharya Vihar as Jal Vihar. This project will bring great relief to the residents, especially those living in the low-lying areas of Acharya Vihar. According to officials, this Rs 5.35 crore project is expected to get completed within a year.
As per the diversion plan designed by the Drainage Division of BMC, the excess water coming via the drainage Channel No.4 would flow to the other end of the channel near Regional Science Centre. Officials opined that the construction of the drain would definitely help resolve the waterlogging issues of Acharya Vihar area. PNN
