Bhubaneswar: In a brazen case of police hooliganism, inspector in-charge of Talabania police station in Puri assaulted media persons in the Capital Hospital premises here Sunday night.
The IIC was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident, which took place at 8.30pm. The victim, Subhakanta Padhiari, has lodged a written complaint in this regard with the Capital police station.
According to the sources, learning that some top police officials had met with an accident, a scribe of a local TV channel rushed to the hospital with his cameraman. When the cameraman started shooting visuals of the accident victims, the IIC got enraged. He suddenly got up from the wheel chair he was sitting in and tried to snatch the camera from the cameraman.
At this juncture, the scribe intervened to save his colleague, but had to face the wrath of the inebriated cop. According to the complaint, IIC thrashed the scribe, resulting in head injuries. The errant cop also snatched the scribe’s mobile phone and tossed it in the air. As a result, the mobile phone was damaged beyond repair.
