Malkangiri: A day after a news report said that a highly qualified tribal youth of the district worked as a daily labourer due to unemployment, district police swung into action.
Malkangiri superintendent of police Jagamohan Meena asked Deva Sodi, a youth of Kudakhal village of Chitrangapalli panchayat under Kalimela block who holds an M.Phil degree, to teach the surrendered ultras who are eager to become part of the mainstream.
Deva Saturday started taking classes of the ex-Maoists at the SP office here. About 100 students including a few local youths and police personnel also attended the classes. Deva taught social science to his students as per the IGNOU syllabus, it was learnt.
He expressed gratitude before SP Meena for giving him an opportunity to serve people.
Deva would take classes in Political Science and he would be given remuneration for it, the SP said.
“Now I am proud of my son who has been assigned the task to educate youths” said Deva’s father Kani Sodi.
According to reports, Kani had sold his properties to ensure that Deva gets good education. Deva, after studying up to graduation in schools and colleges of Malkangiri district, completed his M Phil from Berhampur University in 2015 and scored good marks.
Later, he managed to clear the written tests of several competitive examinations including Orissa Administrative Service, OPSC and for other government jobs but couldn’t crack the viva voce.
Left with no options, Deva tried to get a lecturer’s job in Govindpali Degree College and interview for a junior clerk. But here also he couldn’t pass the interview.
“My father’s decision to make me qualified was perhaps a wrong one,” a frustrated Deva told this correspondent a few days back.
He then started working as a daily labourer to support his family which has deeply pained Kana who sacrificed a lot to make his son educated.
Oriya daily Dharitri published the plight of the educated youth and it became a matter of discussion in the district. Moved by the efforts of the tribal youth, SP Meena offered him the job, a report said.PNN
