Cuttack: A day after he was detained by police for drunk driving and injuring at least seven persons, Cantonment police Monday released former Ranji cricketer Haladhar Das on Personal Recognisance (PR) Bond. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Akhilesvar Singh has directed the Cantonment police to suggest the Regional Transport Office (RTO) here for cancelling the driving licence of Das with immediate effect, sources said. According to sources, the incident occurred around 5pm Sunday when Das was on his way to Chahata from Mangalabag in his Maruti Suzuki Swift (OD-05-H-7780). Das was driving the car under the influence of alcohol following which he lost control over the vehicle and hit several people at four locations. However, locals who intercepted Das at Chahata Square vandalised the hatchback car and beat up Das black and blue. Bidanasi police handed Das over to the Cantonment police who registered a case (71/17) and detained Das for over 24 hours.
