Dhenkanal: An excise official on a raid Monday allegedly assaulted a minor girl at Baisinga village in Kamakshyanagar block of this district, leading to mild tension and protests in the area.
The raid on the house of Bijay Behera was held to check if he was hoarding liquor. The official thrashed Bijay’s wife Gitanjali and the couple’s 14-year-old daughter. The girl has been admitted to the local government hospital. Doctors said she was being treated for severe injuries on her face and torso.
The family has lodged a complaint with the police. It pleaded for justice at a public hearing held by district collector at Kankadahad block, but no action has been taken against the errant officials.
Meanwhile, the Dalit Sangha has demanded that the government take stringent action against the official and bear the treatment cost of the minor girl. The excise department is silent on the matter. It alleged that no proper treatment was given to the girl at the hospital.
