Keonjhar: Low-pressure induced rains have spurred agriculture activities in most parts of Keonjhar district, but farmers alleged that the agriculture activities are affected by short supply of fertilizer to LAMPSs.
Farmers have expressed their unhappiness as they are unable to get fertilizer as per their requirement.
“We have to buy fertilizers from the market at high price. A packet containing 50 kg of urea is provided to each farmer only after furnishing Aadhaar card. A packet of urea can be used for an acre of land, but how can a farmer having 5 to 10 acres of land manage with just one packet of urea,” Benudhar Mohant, a farmer of Keri village, said.
Maidankel LAMPS doesn’t have adequate supply of fertilizer. Each farmer needs at least 12 packets of urea while one packet is provided to each. Nearly, 4,000 farmers are affiliated to the LAMPS.
Farmers say usually urea is applied in farmland after 20 days of seedling transplantation. Though one month has passed, urea has not been made available. Paddy production will be hit due to this, said some farmers.
Farmers like Jagabandhu Mohant, Budhiram Munda, Dinesh Mohant, Madhusudan Munda, Mangulu Munda, Chaka Munda, Radha Munda, Swarnalata Mohant, Gangadhar Nayak and Padmini Mohant expressed their concern over the problem and demanded immediate step for quick supply of urea.
However, deputy director of agriculture Chittaranjan Sahu said there has been provision for adequate supply of urea. He will look into why fertilizers are not being provided to farmers, he added.
