Jeypore: Even as a Crime Branch (CB) probe into the alleged gangrape of a Class IX girl of Koraput is underway, the victim’s family Saturday sought a CBI probe, saying they don’t believe in any investigation by the state government.
A four-member CB team, after probing the matter over last two days, Saturday reached Maliguda, the village of the victim. Its members interrogated the victim’s mother, brother and aunt for two hours in closed door. They returned to Bhubaneswar after recording their statements.
The kin of the gangrape victim said she was doing well but they don’t trust Crime Branch officials or any other agency appointed by the state government to probe the matter. They demanded an investigation by the CBI into the incident. The family members wondered as to how the officials went ahead with the probe without taking the victim to the spot where the crime took place.
They were not ready to accept the medical report which said the girl was not raped.
Demanding medical examination by a doctor from outside, the family of the victim said they don’t need any compensation whether it is Rs 50,000 or Rs 50 lakh but want justice.
Had the girl not been raped, the doctors should have made it clear soon after the incident instead of coming out with a declaration after a month, the family pointed out.
They would go for mass immolation if they fail to get justice in the matter, they warned, adding, the matter is being suppressed as they belong to a weaker section of society. PNN
