Jharsuguda: A 22-year-old girl was allegedly dragged from a moving train and subsequently gangraped. She was rescued in a helpless condition from an isolated place near Banjari village under Badmal police limits in the district Saturday. Three youths reportedly were involved in the heinous crime, sources said.
Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. Police identified the girl as Rani (name changed) from Cuttack Mangal Bazaar area. The girl bore several injuries on her body parts and was mentally disturbed after the incident, SDPO Bijay Kumar Nanda said.
According to police, the victim’s elder brother worked as a bonded labourer in Gujarat. He reportedly was affected by fever a few days back.
On learning her brother’s plight, the victim took a train from Cuttack and set off for Gujarat Wednesday. Meanwhile, a youth identified as Deepak Maharana lured the girl into a friendship during the train journey, the girl said in her complaint.
Deepak lured the girl into a conversation and cunningly asked her to get down from the train near Jharsuguda railway station. He forced her to get down from the train and took her to an isolated place. Later, two of his aides accompanied him and took the girl to Orampada where they took turns on her.
They repeatedly raped her and fled leaving her unconscious near Orampada of Banjari village. Locals spotted the girl lying in a helpless state and alerted a women outfit who later rescued the girl. The outfit president Sarojini Patel learnt the incident from the girl and alerted local police.
SDPO Nanda and Badmal police reached the spot and brought the girl to the police station. A case was registered over a complaint by the women outfit and an investigation launched. Police sent the girl for a medical examination. We will arrest the accused soon, Badmal IIC Suresh Sahu said. PNN
