Bhubaneswar, May 28: Girls have outshined boys in the Bhubaneswar region in the Class X examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the results of which were announced Thursday.
Of the 58,709 registered candidates this year from this region, which includes neighbouring Chhattisgarh and West Bengal, 58,593 students had appeared for the board examination. This included 34,385 boys, of whom 96.73 per cent (33,261 candidates) cleared the examination. Of the 24,208 girls who took the examination, a whopping 97.73, or 23,208, cleared the examination.
A total of 5,236 students in the region — 2,944 boys and 2,292 girls — have got a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 10. Of these, 1,417 boys and 1,068 girls are from Orissa.
In West Bengal, 1,115 students, including 611 boys and 504 girls, got a CGPA of 10 from West Bengal, while the numbers stood at 1,636 students — 916 boys and 720 girls — in Chhattisgarh.
Moreover, in a matter of pride for the state, out of the three states of this region, Orissa outperformed the two neighbouring states with a whopping 98.63 pass percentage compared to West Bengal’s 97.68 per cent and Chhattisgarh’s 95.31 per cent.
Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas once again came out with flying colours in the Class X exam with a 99.73 per cent pass percentage.
Kendriya Vidyalayas continued their good performance and secured a pass performance of 99.08, just behind Navodaya Vidyalayas. The private schools affiliated to CBSE have secured a 96.58 pass percentage, while the Central Tibetan School Administration got a pass percentage of 95.65 per cent in this region.
In contrast, state government schools affiliated to CBSE performed poorly with a pass percentage of 82.47.
