Puri: Governor Ganeshi Lal Saturday reviewed the implementation of various developmental schemes of the Centre and state government in the district here.
Lal put emphasis on proper implementation of schemes with regard sectors like education, health, housing and drinking water.
The Governor asked officials to start work on all new projects prior to the enforcement of model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. He advised officials to work for the social and economical development of people.
The Governor asked officials to ensure proper healthcare to people and achieve 100 per cent institutional delivery in the district. The meeting also gave thrust on best possible healthcare for pregnant and lactating women and newborns.
Lal asked Health department officials to work hard to reduce maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) in the district.
The review meeting put emphasis on the supply of potable water to the residents of each village in Puri district and construction of concrete houses for all needy people.
The Governor also asked officials of Education department to make available drinking water and sanitation facilities at each school. “No child should be deprived of free and compulsory education,” Lal said.
Officials informed the Governor that as many as 2,60,110 household toilets have been constructed in the district under various government schemes. They also claimed that steps are being taken to make rural people aware of issues relation to sanitation.
“The Centre and the state government have launched various schemes for welfare of people. These benefits of these schemes should reach people. I will conduct review meetings in all districts by February 2 and place my findings before the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister,” Lal said.
Collector Jyotiprakash Das, Additional Collector Binay Kumar Dash, district rural development agency project director Uddhab Chandra Majhi and officials of various departments were present at the meeting.
