Depending upon the country, traditions and practices are different from each other. While India is filled with joy and happiness of the auspicious occasion of Holi, there are many other countries who play Holi in a whole together different way.
In India, we play Holi with beautiful colors, but in Spain, people play with rotten eggs and flour. Similarly, in many parts, they play it with tomato.
While the one with tomato is called Tomatino festival, the one with rotten eggs and flour is called as ‘food fight’.
Each year in the town of Ibi in eastern Spain a festival called Els Enfarinats is held, staging a massive battle using eggs, flour and firecrackers.
A group of married men take control of the village for one day, pronouncing a number of silly and ridiculous laws, fining anyone who infringes them.
The other group, opposition, tries to restore order. In Roman times, it was the slaves who took over for a day.
The tradition was lost during the right-wing dictatorship of Francisco Franco, but in 1981 the festival started up again.
